Abandoned ‘unicorn’ puppy with ‘magical’ tail on his head left in blistering cold

A shelter stepped in to save Narwhal, affectionately nicknamed ‘The Little Magical Fairy Unicorn’ due to the tail growing from his forehead. Despite facing significant challenges in his young life, this unique pup has found hope.

The ‘unicorn’ puppy was given a second chance after being hailed by many as the “coolest” dog ever.

This lovable puppy, with a tail sprouting from the middle of his head, became an internet sensation after being abandoned and left out in the “freezing cold.”

The rescue organization Mac’s Mission discovered the pup, who also had a foot injury, on the street alongside an older dog. They took both dogs into their care.

The staff named him ‘Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn,’ and the charming dog quickly gained a massive fan base after videos of him were shared on Facebook.

The Missouri-based center “specialises in special” and focuses on helping dogs that have been abused, injured, or born with defects, who would otherwise not survive without their assistance.

Back in 2019, the center addressed a question on every Narwhal fan’s mind — the tail, unfortunately, doesn’t wag when he gets excited. The puppy was taken to the vet, with staff reassuring him that it wouldn’t be scary, to investigate why the tail was there, whether it was connected, and most importantly, if it could wag.

Following the appointment, the center wrote: “The extra tail is not connected to anything and has no real use other than making him the COOLEST PUPPY EVER!”

“One of our followers said, ‘It appears they assembled the puppy wrong. Always follow the directions, people!’ This perfectly captures the feeling of discovering ‘extra parts’ during assembly.

Dr. Heuring commented that there is currently no reason to remove the unicorn tail, adding, “and we all wish it wagged.”

It seems the staff at Cape Small couldn’t resist showering this little guy with affection either! The unicorn face tail doesn’t seem to bother Narwhal at all, and he continues to live his life like any other playful puppy.

One person shared: “Honestly, the tail just makes him even cuter! And what great news that it’s not causing any trouble up there!” Another added: “He is destined for great things! I can feel it when I look at his little face, he’s adorable and awesome!”

Since being rescued, Narwhal has been thriving thanks to the dedication of the shelter. However, his journey hasn’t been without difficulties.

Shockingly, some people reacted negatively to the lovable pup, even attempting to break into the shelter to harm him. Rochelle Steffen, the shelter’s founder, revealed to Fox 35 in 2022 that some viewed him as an “abomination.”

To protect Narwhal, the shelter maintained tight security until Steffen, who had grown deeply attached to the puppy, decided to adopt him herself.

“He is the best,” Steffen shared, mentioning that Narwhal “loves to sleep under the covers” and enjoys exploring her backyard with her two other dogs. Now, he also serves as a ‘spokesdog’ for the shelter.

“He hates car rides but loves to go to events!” Steffen added, describing the cheerful dog as “rotten happy” these days. His unique tail remains intact since there’s no medical reason to remove it, ensuring this heartwarming story has a happy ending.
