DeGeneres Flees US With Wife and Says She’ll ‘Never Return’

The political climate in the US has had a significant impact on many people, with some contemplating leaving the country after the recent presidential election.

One public figure who has openly discussed her decision to leave is former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. She, along with her wife Portia de Rossi and their children, has pledged to “never return.”

An insider close to the couple revealed to The Wrap that they have now settled in the Cotswolds and have no plans of returning to the United States, particularly as long as Trump is in office.

The couple’s decision represents a significant change, as they were once enthusiastic property investors in Los Angeles, owning several properties, including some in Santa Barbara.

As reported by Site Line, the couple is believed to have invested over $350 million in Santa Barbara properties since 2006.

However, Ellen’s departure from the US may not be entirely motivated by political issues or women’s rights, topics that have sparked widespread protests and debates since Trump’s presidency.

In her latest Netflix comedy special, Ellen humorously remarked, “I got kicked out of show business.”

Her Netflix special For Your Approval, which debuted in September, marks her first major project since leaving her long-running talk show amid controversy over allegations of a toxic work culture.

Earlier this year, Ellen shared that the scandal surrounding her show took a significant emotional toll, explaining to Rolling Stone that it had a “toll on my ego and my self-esteem,” while acknowledging that the “extremes in this business” were tough to navigate.

Ellen is not the only prominent celebrity who seems to have left the US following Trump’s election. Earlier this month, Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria also made the decision to relocate, now splitting her time between Spain and Mexico.

She had earlier shared with Marie Claire: “I’m privileged. I get to escape and go somewhere.

“Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

However, she clarified this week on The View that her decision to move wasn’t solely due to Trump, as she told host Ana Navarro: “Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?”

She continued: “I’ve been in Europe for almost three years.

“By the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive, which makes me so sad, you know.

“Everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can’t be that way right now.”
